Kentucky Derby: Houston's Mattress Mack made $1.2M bet on Angel of Empire, lost

Mattress Mack threw his hat into the races, and it didn't quite work out the way he might've wanted.

The Kentucky Derby came to an end on Saturday and right before the races, Mack decided to place a last minute bet of $1.2 million on Angel of Empire to win the derby.

However, Mack lost that bet after Mage ended up as the winner of the 149th Kentucky Derby. Angel of Empire ended up coming in third.

Mage was bred by Grandview Equine and had $3,100,415 in win wagers.

Angel of Empire was bred by Forgotten Land Investment Inc & Black Diamond Equine Corp and the colt's jockey is Flavien Prat.

The win wager on Angel of Empire was previously $1,832,259 but increased to $9,919,625 by the end of the race.
