Sources say Kamala Harris has picked running mate

FOX 2's Roop Raj's sources in the White House say the Vice President has picked her running mate for the race for the White House.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (FOX 2) - Minn. Gov. Tim Walz will be Kamala Harris' running mate in the 2024 election, the Associated Press confirmed Tuesday morning.

Harris is expected to officially announce the pick later in the day.

In the two weeks since President Joe Biden announced he was withdrawing from the race for the White House and endorsed Harris for President, speculation has run rampant about who the Harris campaign would pick as her running mate.

Sources told FOX 2 on Monday that Harris had made a selection and that the then-unnamed person had accepted the offer.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz were all potential picks.

However, that list of four was narrowed even further later in the day to just two: Shapiro and Walz.

Battleground state visits

After Harris names her running mate, the duo will launch into an aggressive, seven-state battleground tour that begins in Philadelphia on Tuesday and winds through Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada.

Campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez is now focusing more on Arizona and Nevada because of what officials say is Harris’ increased competitiveness against former President Donald Trump in the two states, both of which President Joe Biden won four years ago.
