On Christmas Eve, 20 new homeowners received an unforgettable gift—a shopping spree at Target—thanks to NBA star James Harden and his Impact 13 Foundation.

On Christmas Eve, 20 new homeowners received an unforgettable gift—a shopping spree at Target—thanks to NBA star James Harden and his Impact 13 Foundation.

For 20 families who recently became homeowners through Houston Habitat for Humanity, the holiday season was made brighter by the generosity of James Harden and his foundation. The event provided much-needed relief as they navigated the financial challenges of settling into their new homes.

Jason Wright, a new homeowner, expressed his gratitude: "It's very supportive. It's a blessing. Things like this don't come all the time. When you see an opportunity, take advantage of it."

LaTonia McGinty echoed this sentiment, noting the financial strain of the home-buying process: "Very beneficial because the closing process, us saving up the money, getting in the house, it makes it hard for the holidays when it comes up, so this was a blessing."

The families were assisted by volunteers from the Impact 13 Foundation, unaware that Harden himself would make a surprise appearance. His presence added an extra layer of joy to the event and to all Target shoppers and employees.

James Harden shared his motivation for giving back: "It's one of the best times. People of my stature kind of forget about the people that need it. Especially around these times, people are searching for love and joy, and just a smile. Hopefully, I can be that person to kind of give them that."

Despite no longer living in Houston, Harden remains committed to the community. "They've [Houstonians] done so much for me, man. My entire family still lives here. It's who I am. It's a part of me. They've done so much for me. I feel it's an honor to give back. This city deserves it."

Cassandra Robinson-Bacon from Habitat for Humanity emphasized the significance of the event: "We tell them [homeowners] it's a bigger picture, it's the closing of your home. We can celebrate those sweet 16s and holidays a little bit later after closing your home. So to give this opportunity to these families is huge."

The families expressed their heartfelt thanks to Harden for making their first Christmas in their new homes so special.
