Inmate dies after beaten in holding cell

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the beating of jail inmate Patrick Brown, who was found unresponsive in a holding cell on April 5 and died later that day. Two other inmates have been charged in the assault that rendered him unconscious.

When jail staff found Brown unresponsive at 12:37 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, he was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:14 p.m. by medical staff.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office has accepted both aggravated assault and serious bodily injury charges against inmates Curtis Maxwell and Ebenezer Nah following an HCSO investigation. Charges may be upgraded against both Maxwell and Nah depending on the outcome of an investigation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
