Tropical Storm Beryl: Houston area campuses announce closures

Several school campuses have announced they will close on Monday, July 8 out of caution for Tropical Storm Beryl.

The storm is expected to hit the Texas coast as a Category 1 hurricane on Monday.

Here are all the schools that have reported closures at this time.

The University of Houston-Victoria

The University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) announced they will be closed in a notice sent out Friday. The campus stated all UHV classes, events, activities, and operations are canceled and the school will be closed on Monday, July 8 out of an abundance of caution.

UHV Katy will remain open at this time, the school said.

Crosby ISD

Crosby ISD will be closed on Monday, July 8 due to the concern over the landfall of Beryl. The 21st Century Summer Program and all other summer student activities are canceled for Monday, July 8. 

Wharton County Junior College

Wharton County Junior College will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2024. All classes and activities are canceled for July 8.

San Jacinto College

The San Jacinto College Administration and Office of Emergency Management continue to monitor the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service forecasts regarding Tropical Storm Beryl. San Jacinto College will be closed on Monday, July 8, for all classes, operations, and activities. The closure will begin at 7 p.m., on Sunday, July 7. An update for Tuesday will be sent on Monday afternoon.

College of the Mainland

Due to the approaching impact of Beryl, the College of the Mainland (COM) will be closed on Monday, July 8. All classes and campus operations at all COM locations are canceled at this time.
