Humble ISD adding two new weeks of vacation
HUMBLE, Texas (FOX 26) - Humble ISD is adding two new weeks of vacation for the 2019-2020 school year.
The dates are October 7-11, 2019 and February 3-7, 2020.
The district tells FOX 26 the change was driven by parent response to a survey.
Several calendar options were presented. Option A was a schedule similar to the current and Option B presented additional week-long breaks and Option C featuerd more long-weekends.
Half of the more than 12,000 responding parents selected Option B, with 30% selecting C and only 19% choosing A.
The district is working with the Lake Houston YMCA to offer a child care option during the October and February breaks.
The Lake Houston YMCA already offers child care during Spring Breaks and Winter Break. The cost is about $200 a week for camps during these weeks for 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. child care.
Financial assistance is available through the YMCA and Workforce Solutions (NCI). Any family is welcome to apply for financial assistance.
