Humble crash: One dead, Uber driver and family hospitalized

A deadly crash in Humble early this morning, involving a driver who allegedly ran a red light, left one person dead and several others injured. 

The incident happened near the intersection of the 3100 block of Atascocita Road and 3100 block of Wilson Road around 1:00 a.m. and involved two vehicles.

Authorities say a 35-year-old male driver, the sole occupant of a white Nissan Sentra was going westbound on Atascocita and allegedly ran a red light at a high rate of speed. In a Toyota Camry, an Uber Driver, 41, with a family of five, consisting of a mother, a father, and three kids, were crossing the intersection going north on a green light.

The two vehicles collided and the passenger side of the Nissan hit a pole of a gas station sign. An open can of beer was found near his lap, officials report.

Houston police report the driver became trapped inside and died at the scene. The Uber driver and the family of five were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
