HPD officer hit by vehicle near downtown protests

A Houston police officer was hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Jefferson St. and Emancipation Ave. 

Houston police say the female officer was assisting in the area when he was hit.

According to police, officers caught the suspect vandalizing a vehicle before he tried to flee.

Officials say the officer's injuries were non-life threatening.

Police say the officer was transported to a medical facility as a precaution.
