HPD: Mother charged in death of girl she initially claimed fell from balcony
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Houston police say a mother has been charged with injury to a child in the death of her 5-year-old daughter who she initially claimed had fallen from a second story balcony at an apartment complex.
Andrea Webb, 21, later admitted to homicide investigators that she fabricated the story about the fall, police say.
Officers responded to a call about the reported fall just before 11 p.m. Saturday night at an apartment complex in southeast Houston. Police say the officers observed that the girl had visible injuries to her face, chest, abdomen, arms and back that were not consistent with a fall.
Detectives say Web admitted to fabricating the story and said she had made the girl sit against a wall in the home for multiple hours without support of a seat, and struck the girl with a belt when she failed to do so.
Police are continuing to investigate.
