Houston Police Department

The Houston Police Department says a K9 died Saturday night due to natural causes.

K9 Jake was 10 years old. He would have been 11 years old in August.

The department says Jake served the resident of Houston for seven years with his handler Senior Police Officer Brian Schmidt.

"Jakes service to the community will be missed," the Houston Police Department wrote on Twitter.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo also wrote on Twitter, "Please keep Jake’s handler Brian Schmidt and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Jake was a great member of our team and will be missed. RIP Jake."
