With the highly-anticipated annual tradition of Houston Restaurant Weeks just days away, the event website is live for Reservation Day, July 15, which means supporters can begin to reserve their tables for their favorite participating restaurants or ones that they want to sample for the first time.
The event, which will begin on Aug. 1 and end on Labor Day, Sept. 7, is entering its 13th summer and serves as "the single largest fundraiser in the United States benefiting the largest food bank in America," according to a statement released on Wednesday.
Since radio show host and FOX 26 Morning News contributor Cleverley Stone founded the event in 2003, Houston Restaurant Weeks has generated almost $6 million for the Houston Food Bank, which has allowed the organization to provide almost 18 million meals for people classified as "food insecure." Recognized as the Feeding America Food Bank of the Year, the HFB distributes 67 million nutritious meals throughout its network of 600 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other hunger relief charities in southeast Texas, feeding almost 800,000 people each year.
Volunteers serve as Houston Restaurant Weeks staff and 100 percent of the donations raised from area restaurants directly benefit the HFB. Over a 38-day period, supporters of the event can dine of specially-priced multi-course prix-fixe menus.
Participating restaurants make donations to the HFB based upon their HRW sales.
The list of participating restaurants will be updated continuously on http://houstonrestaurantweeks.com/. The list of participants will be final as of Aug. 1.
While some of the restaurants may require reservations, others may accept diners who walk in. This information will be noted on the HRW website menu pages.
