"I started seeing all of the smoke and heard the alarms going off," said Joshua Greathouse, a nearby worker. "It just started catching on fire like crazy. With the wind, it just started spreading."

"Thank God the firefighters showed up, because all of this brush back here started catching," said Greathouse. "We were afraid of it because this building has a bunch of chemicals and ours does as well."
The fire was at the Waste Management - Houston Clay Road Recycling Center. The facility gave this statement in response to the fire:
"WM is thankful for the response by the Houston Fire Department to assist in addressing the fire at the Houston Clay Road Recycling Center. WM can confirm that this is a recycling facility that managed cardboard and paper materials. We have no information at this time as to the cause of the fire, but will assist with the investigation."
The fire department said one person was transported to an emergency room due to smoke inhalation. No firefighters were reported injured.
On Saturday, the fire department said crews had remained at the scene overnight to monitor it and put out hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
