Houston traffic: Preparations begin for I-10 White Oak Bayou Elevation Project

The Texas Department of Transportation is beginning preparations for phase one of the I-10 White Oak Bayou elevation project. 

According to a release, TxDOT crews will have several closures starting on Wednesday night, January 8, at 9 p.m.

The closures will be in place for the Studemont Street Bridge demolition. 

Here's a breakdown of the closures: 

  • Beginning Wednesday, January 8 the I-10 Katy Freeway westbound Taylor Street exit and entrance ramp will be closed for the duration of the project.
  • Taylor Street entrance ramp: All northbound and southbound traffic from Taylor Street needing to access the I-10 westbound mainlanes will need continue straight on Taylor Street crossing I-10 to Sawyer Street from Sawyer Street, make a right onto Washington Avenue. From Washington Avenue, make a right turn onto Studemont Street to I-10 Katy Freeway frontage road to the next available entrance ramp.  
  • Taylor Street exit ramp: All traffic will continue along the mainlanes and take the Studemont Street exit ramp and u-turn at the intersection. Traffic will then continue on the eastbound frontage road to access Taylor Street.
  • Beginning Thursday, January 9 at 9 p.m. until Monday, January 13 5 a.m. the I-10 Katy Freeway westbound Studemont Street entrance ramp will be closed.
  • All traffic will continue on the frontage road and use the Yale Street entrance ramp to access the westbound mainlanes.
  • Beginning Friday, January 10 at 10 p.m. until Monday, January 13 at 5 a.m., the I-10 Katy Freeway westbound Heights Boulevard exit ramp will be closed.
  • All traffic will continue on the westbound mainlanes, use the exit to Patterson St and U-turn. Continue along frontage road to Heights Boulevard.

Drivers should expect delays in the area and should obey all posted signage in the area.
