2 dead, 1 hospitalized after crash in River Oaks

Two men are dead and another is in the hospital after a crash in front of River Oaks Elementary early Thursday morning, Houston police say.

The crash occurred around 3 a.m. in the 2100 block of Kirby Drive near San Felipe Street.

According to police, three men, two age 20 and one 19, were in a Lexus SUV that was heading northbound at a high rate of speed.

Police say a deputy constable saw the vehicle lose control and leave the roadway. The SUV flipped over and hit a tree.

The driver and a front seat passenger were pulled from the vehicle by firefighters. They were both taken to the hospital, where the driver died.

Police say a passenger in the backseat died at the scene.

Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor, but the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
