Houston-area power outages Thursday

More than 160,000 CenterPoint Energy customers are without power on Thursday morning after overnight storms.

Most of the outages were concentrated to the north of Houston, but several thousand customers were affected by outages throughout the city as well.

CenterPoint Energy says assessments of their electrical system will continue on Thursday, and they expect the majority of the remaining outages to be restored by the end of Friday. However, the company says restoration work is expected to continue through Sunday for the hardest hit areas that have significant infrastructure and equipment damage, with remaining isolated outages addressed after that.

The company says customer's equipment – like their weatherhead – may have also sustained damage, and the customer will need to have a qualified electrician make repairs before their service can be restored.
