Houston police shoot, kill man at Bretshire, Homestead
HOUSTON - A Houston police officer shot and killed a suspect who was reaching for an officer’s weapon during a struggle Monday morning, the department says.
Houston police say officers responded to a criminal mischief report about a man with a sharp object who was breaking windows and slashing tires just before 8 a.m.
Officers reportedly encountered a man matching the suspect’s description in the 7200 block of Bretshire Drive and gave him commands to try to detain him.
Police say a short foot pursuit began and came to an end near the intersection of Bretshire Drive and Homestead.

A struggle reportedly ensued. Police say at some point, an officer communicated that the suspect was reaching for his holstered weapon.
One of the officers then fired two shots, striking the suspect. The man, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, died at the scene. He has not been identified.
No officers were injured in the incident.
The officer who fired his weapon is 30 years old and has five and a half years of service with the department.
Two other officers involved in the incident have three and a half years of service with the department. One is 30 years old, and the other is 31 years old.
Per policy, the officers will be placed on administrative duty while an investigation is conducted. The HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office will conduct parallel investigations.
