Houston police release results from DWI Task Force initiative

The Houston Police Department has announced the results of their three-night multi-agency DWI Task Force initiative. 

Authorities said law enforcement officers from eight different agencies conducted proactive traffic enforcement, leading to 712 traffic stops, over 400 traffic citations written, and issuing over 300 warnings.

In all, officials said 93 total arrests were made, 54 of those were for DWI. 

In the statement, officials stated the arrest numbers translate into the law enforcement effort potentially preventing 54 crashes from occurring in Houston and Harris County that could have been tragic for the community.

Officials stated that HPD investigated only two DWI crashes on New Year's Eve compared to 12 during last year's New Year's Eve, which is a 66% decrease. 

In the statement, officials added, "This speaks to the hard work of our men and women who are on the streets everyday keeping our city safe and to the responsible decisions many Houstonians are making."
