HOUSTON - Multiple investigations are underway after police shot an armed woman in northwest Houston late Sunday morning.
NW Houston: Police shooting investigation
What we know:
The scene started with a 911 call about a shooting at a complex on Pinemont Drive just east of Highway 290.
According to HPD Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir, the call came in at around 11:15 a.m. Sunday with a report of a woman who shot a man. Minutes later, police were told the woman came back and shot the man again.
Officers arrived at the scene minutes after the update and reportedly found the suspect walking on a sidewalk.
The assistant chief says police gave the suspect verbal commands, but she refused to comply. At some point, three officers "feared for their safety" and shot at the woman, hitting her at least once. Officers then gave the woman medical treatment and reportedly found two guns in her possession.
Police say the suspect and the man she allegedly shot are hospitalized in critical condition. No other injuries have been reported.
What we don't know:
No one involved has been identified at this time. Police could only confirm that the suspect and victims were adults, and the officers who fired have been with Houston Police for 2–3 years.
It was initially reported that the suspect and victim were dating, but police at the scene could not confirm their relationship.
It was also reported initially that the woman fired at the officers before they shot her. Police at the scene could not confirm if she fired or aimed a weapon at officers.
It's also not clear if the victim and suspect lived at the complex where the shooting was reported.
Investigations underway
What's next:
HPD's Internal Affairs Division, their Special Investigations Unit, and the Harris County District Attorney's Office will run separate investigations into this shooting.
Police bodycam footage will be released in 30 days, according to police.
When asked if the officers involved would be placed on administrative leave, officials said they would be "taken off the streets for their well-being."
