1 killed in Houston officer-involved shooting

One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Kingwood. Houston police say the suspect was seen on surveillance video, breaking into a home just minutes before he was shot. FOX 26's Sherman Desselle has more from HPD Chief Troy Finner.

One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Houston.

According to HPD, officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 2900 block of Woodland Grove Drive just before 5 p.m.

HPD Chief Troy Finner says the resident of the home saw security camera footage showing two suspects attempting to break in through the backdoor of their home before calling the police. 

Officers found the burglary suspects in the backyard and began to chase them. The suspects split up and went separate ways.

Chief Finner says one of the suspects got into a struggle with an officer and the officer sustained minor injuries.

The suspect displayed a weapon, but police are investigating if they fired the weapon.

According to police, the officer shot the suspect and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

That officer also suffered minor injuries during the struggle. Finner says the officer is a 3-year veteran.

The other suspect was located several blocks away from the original scene and was taken into custody.

Investigations are now underway for the attempted burglary and shooting.
