Child without parents following murder-suicide

FOX 26 Reporter Damali Keith has more on the story and spoke with the suspect's brother.

Two families are left devastated, and a child is without parents after a murder-suicide in the Spring Valley Village area in northwest Houston.

The shots rang out just before 10 p.m. Sunday night during a custody exchange.

The woman was picking up her baby boy from her ex and investigators say the man opened fire on her, killing her. It happened in the parking lot at the Banyan Tree Apartments where the couple used to live together.

HPD is investigating the fatal shooting of a woman in northwest Houston.

Detectives say the 23-year-old man still lives there, and when his 25-year-old ex arrived to take their son home after a weekend visit with him, police say the man shot the woman to death.

Two adults and a 16-day-old baby were in the car with the woman. The newborn baby, who belonged to another woman in the car, was injured by shattered glass when the car window was shot out.

The man’s brother, Marlon, says he was actually inside the apartment with the couple’s baby, a 2-year-old baby boy. He says he couldn’t believe when he heard gunshots.

FOX 26 Houston is now on the FOX LOCAL app available through Apple TV, Amazon FireTV, Roku and Google Android TV!

"It’s something I can not explain. It’s something I can not explain. It’s a good thing the child is ok. I was just hiding with my nephew. Thank God he was not scared," Marlon explains.

An HPD K-9 found a man's body during a general area search.

Investigators say the man, Marlon’s brother, then ran away after shooting his ex and he shot and killed himself about a block away. CPS is now also involved.
