Houston high-rise penthouse theft: $200,000 in person items stolen

Brava is one of the most exclusive hi-rises to live in downtown Houston. Obviously, people who live here care a lot about security.

"Realistically, that's what we had imagined when we moved in here," said Rachael Thompson. "It should be difficult for someone to come up off the street."

Visitors are greeted by the concierge who calls the tenet before an elevator can be accessed.

Sometime around Thanksgiving, Rachael says a thief or thieves broke into her 45th floor penthouse while she and her husband were in Orlando.

That same day she says maintenance came to fix the fireplace.

"It's a pretty strange coincidence considering the difficulty of how it is to get to our unit or any unit for that matter," she said.

The door was possibly broken with a crowbar.

"They stole jewelry purses, my husband's Xbox, priceless things like my deceased mothers jewelry, my husband's hall of fame and championship ring when he was at the University of North Texas," said Rachael. "$200,000 of items stolen."

She says she's gotten no answers from Brava property staff or management.

Brava/Hines sent us this statement: "The safety of our residents will continue to remain our highest priority and we are pleased to report there have been no further incidents. The police have concluded their investigation onsite. We will refrain from further comment at this time as it is an open legal matter."

"It seems there's a spike in crime in all the hi-rises in the area around us," Rachael said.
