HOUSTON - A man has died and two other people were taken to the hospital after a series of crashes on the Eastex Freeway in north Houston, officials say.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. Monday in the northbound lanes near the Beltway 8 entrance ramp.

According to police, a red Toyota Corolla and a blue Mazda CX3 were on the exit ramp when they collided, spun onto the freeway main lanes and struck a concrete barrier on the left shoulder.
Police say the driver of a blue Toyota Corolla tried to avoid the crash, but lost control of his car and struck a metal dividing barrier between the exit ramp and the main lanes. The 30-year-old driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and he later died from his injuries.
According to police, the blue Corolla didn't hit any other vehicles. However, police say some other vehicles did crash while trying to avoid the wreck.
Police say a total of five vehicles were involved in the crashes.
The Houston Police Department investigates a crash on the Eastex Freeway near Beltway 8.
Police say three people, including the man who later died and the driver of the Mazda, were taken to the hospital. The Mazda driver was last reported to be in stable condition.
