Houston crime: Daughter charged for shooting elderly father in northwest Houston

An elderly man is in the hospital after his daughter shot him in northwest Houston, police say.

The shooting happened around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday morning in the 2300 block of Brookmere Drive. The victim, 72, was shot by his daughter, 52-year-old Cristina Bernich in his ankle.

Houston Police Department initially said the shooting happened inside the kitchen of their shared home. The two were in an argument before the incident, police added.

Authorities say the man was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

The daughter has been taken into custody, and two handguns have been recovered inside the house as part of the investigation.

Bernich was charged with aggravated assault of a family member.
