HOUSTON - Authorities remain on the scene following a deadly crash involving five vehicles on the Katy Freeway on Thursday afternoon in Houston.
METRO police tell FOX 26, the crash occurred on the Katy Freeway near Highway 6, just before 3:30 p.m.

Officials said the crash involved a METRO bus and four passenger vehicles.

A preliminary investigation revealed a METRO bus and private vehicle were in the HOV managed lane when a vehicle attempted to enter the HOV lane.
That's when, officials said, the vehicle struck another vehicle, and that vehicle struck the METRO bus.
Following that crash, officials said, the striking vehicle then attempted to re-enter the mainlines of the Katy Freeway and was struck by another vehicle in the main lanes.
METRO police said the driver of the striking vehicle was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. A passenger in the striking vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.
No passengers on the METRO bus were injured.
The driver from the other vehicle struck in the HOV lane was also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
No other details have been released.
