According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, officials with the Violent Persons Task Force were conducting a warrant service for the man who was wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect led authorities on a chase in a vehicle.
He eventually came to a stop in the parking lot of an apartment complex between Mesa and Wilson Road and got out of the vehicle with a long gun, the sheriff says. He shortly ran from law enforcement before a Harris County Precinct 8 deputy on the task force shot his weapon, hitting the suspect.
Officials say the suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive.
