Authorities described the scene as chaotic and say it started when the crash initially occurred on Federal road, about three miles away from the scene. The car that caused the crash took off.
Two of the cars involved in the crash, a Nissan and an Infiniti, followed the third car, a Kia, to a parking lot near a gas station, law enforcement reported.

Deputies say the passenger in the gold Nissan, a Hispanic male, got out and approached the Kia to confront the driver. That's when shots were fired. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.
Gonzalez says the involved suspects left the scene.
"At a personal level, you understand. They say ‘Hey, someone’s fleeing the scene, I wanna get a plate number’," Gonzalez said. "People are tired of being victimized whether it be personal property or other things. We understand that frustration. It’s important to use your due diligence and be safe because other people get hurt and nowadays everyone’s armed with a pistol."
Deputies along with HPD found the Kia matching the description off Westheimer and Hayes, about 30 minutes away from the scene.
Two people have been detained, officials say.
