Grandparents of suspect say he is innocent in murder of his parents

It was a case that shocked the Houston area when a former NFL player and his wife were murdered in their Bellaire home.

Antonio Armstrong Jr. is charged with capital murder in the deaths of his parents, Antonio Armstrong Sr. and Dawn Armstrong. He has said all along that an intruder was in the house that night back in 2016. His lawyers say they have police audio tape of a witness interview immediately after the crime. That witness claims in court records that Antonio Sr. had been getting death threats for his role in a prostitution ring.

Lawyers for Antonio Jr. have requested that the case against him be tossed out because prosecutors withheld evidence that could exonerate him. FOX 26 News requested a response from the Harris County District Attorney's Office and was told the judge has already reviewed this matter and has denied the defense motion.

The case against Antonio Jr. is scheduled for trial in March 2019. A spokesperson for Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg says, "We look forward to presenting all the evidence to a jury."

The grandparents of Antonio Jr., Keith Whitely and Kay Winston, defend his innocence in an interview with Isiah Carey.
