COPPELL, Texas (FOX 26) — The statewide price average in Texas has increased to $2.47 per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. The price level is nine cents more than the previous week and is five cents more per gallon compared to this week in 2018.

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Midland and Odessa are paying the most on average at $2.63 per gallon while drivers in San Antonio are paying the least at $2.33 per gallon.

The national average price per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline is $2.68, nine cents more than the previous week and four cents more than the price per gallon during the same period in 2018.

March gasoline prices have increased throughout the U.S., including Texas, following increasing demand and tightening gasoline stocks. Texas is among the ten least expensive states for gasoline in the nation for the week, although the statewide average increased by 29 cents per gallon, on average, compared to the same period in February.

"Drivers in Texas are seeing some of the cheapest gas prices in the country, but the statewide average jumped a whopping 29 cents per gallon in just the last month,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesman for AAA Texas and AAA New Mexico. "On a national scale, AAA forecasts that gas prices will trend up moving through the spring and into the summer, which, of course, means higher pump prices are likely for Texas drivers too."

AAA is projecting that the national average for a regular gallon of unleaded will rise to around $2.75 per gallon.
