HOUSTON (FOX 26) - A furniture store has been destroyed after a small car fire behind the building and off the property quickly spread and caused firefighters to pull a second alarm, according to the Houston Fire Department and the business owner.
Houston Fire Department units arrived with around 75 firefighters at 1:45 p.m. Friday. The fire consumed the Sleep Shop Super Store and attached Bunk Bed World warehouse located just north of the intersection of Tidwell Road and Interstate 45 in north Houston.
Michael Premazon, the store's owner for 25 years, says he tried to use fire extinguishers after hearing that his store was on fire, but it was too late.
Thick black smoke could be seen for miles as the fire raged on. Firefighters spent hours trying to put out all the flames, but even hours after the initial fire, flames were still visible.
Premazon tells FOX 26 News that the warehouse was full of furniture because of the holidays. He had just recently paid for and installed a new roof and air conditioners the showroom. All of that is now gone, but Premazon says he plans to continue his business and still intends to fulfill his customers' orders.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
