Found journal prompts Houston-area man to search for owner
HOUSTON - A northwest Houston man is trying to do a good deed, as the years end and begin, by finding the owner of a journal he found in a parking lot.
George Zemanek was shopping at the HEB on North Shepherd in the Heights on December 23 when he saw the book lying in the middle of the parking lot, amid cars coming and going.

"I wanted to get it off the ground so it wouldn't get run over,' he recalled. "I picked it up, and realized it was a journal, so it's a lot more important than just a book. That's when I realized it was something that needed to get back to the owner very soon."
The journal has a distinctive blue cover with ornate gold, celestial decorations. Zemanek leafed through it, to see what the book was, and found a variety of observations, seemingly sobriety affirmations, lists and recipes inside.
The entries date back to August 2023 through to just days before it was found.

The only clue to the author is a distinctive signature that appears to read 'Ziggy'. George Zemanek desperately wants to give it back.
"This was really important.," he says. "There is so much positive thoughts and expressions of appreciation in it, that this was definitely not just somebody just writing things down. This was something very emotional and very important to this person."
Zemanek told the HEB service desk about the find, but kept the journal because the store was busy that night, and he didn't want it to get lost in the shuffle.
So far, he says the store has not fielded any inquiries about the journal. He has also posted on social media, with no luck, so far.
So, if you know a man or woman named 'Ziggy', who might have had this journal, reach out to FOX 26, and we'll try to get this mystery solved.
