Houston man killed in River Oaks remembered by family, friends

HOUSTON - Family and friends are mourning the loss of Keewyn Reece, a 34-year-old Houston man who died in a car crash early Tuesday morning after leaving his company’s holiday party.

Reece, a manager at Kirby Ice House, was remembered by loved ones as a caring and responsible individual. "Life shattering, honestly, because just having somebody there by your side for so long, and then you get a phone call, and he's gone," said his cousin, Khorhce Saulsberry.

In the middle of his tears, Saulsberry remembered growing up and spending summers with his cousin Reece.

"My favorite memory is hooping, going to concerts, and him coming over the summer and just staying in the summer because he lived in Houston, and we lived out in New Waverly," Saulsberry said.

Joshua Moore, Reece's best friend of 14 years, expressed his grief, saying, "My entire world stopped. I never felt such a sharper pain in my heart. Me, my wife, my daughter, his brothers, his friends, his family, we’re all devastated."

Reece's friends and family gathered at one of his favorite murals, depicting the Houston Astros in The Woodlands, to honor his memory. "He was a Houston fan through and through. Astros, Texans, Rockets, but his favorite player in the world was Kobe Bryant," Moore recalled.

According to Houston police, Reece was driving at a high rate of speed when his vehicle struck a curb, lost control, and hit multiple trees. Moore emphasized the importance of road safety, saying, "All accidents occur to or from work and just pay attention."

Reece's family and friends are left with cherished memories. "I had seen him maybe 24, 36 hours before that. He had come to my house, and we were just hanging out. Before he left, I told him that I loved him, and I’ll see him later, and that’s how I want to remember my brother," Moore said.

Family and friends said Reece was a lover of Houston sports and purple Skittles. 

Kirby Ice House has started a GoFundMe in Reece's honor.
