Family of 15-year-old Jayvon Sanders pleads for answers after Christmas Day shooting

The family of 15-year-old Jayvon Sanders is seeking justice and answers after he was tragically shot and killed on Christmas Day at a party in an apartment complex on Burdine Street in southwest Houston.

Derrick Wilson, Sanders' father, expressed his profound grief and longing for his son.

"I love him and I miss him. It’s breaking down on me. It’s coming harder and harder," Wilson said, less than 24 hours after losing his son.

Sanders had attended the Christmas party, leaving home in matching pajamas with plans to enjoy gumbo.

"He told me he was finna leave because we had matching PJs and everything, and he was supposed to be going there and I was cooking," Wilson recalled.

Witnesses reported that Sanders was in and out of the party throughout the night. Emergency Medical Services were called when someone at the party fell ill. Upon arrival, the Houston Fire Department discovered Sanders' lifeless body near the parking lot.

"HFD went over to try to render aid and they realized and pronounced the victim dead on scene. It seems like there’s a single gunshot wound to the head," authorities stated.

Houston police have reported no witnesses and currently have no suspects in the case. The grieving family is urging anyone with information to come forward.

"That’s what I am asking for because I have to go home and not look at my son walk through the door or sitting at the chair that we normally sit in side by side," Wilson pleaded.

Sanders is remembered as a family-oriented and hardworking teenager who always put God first.

The family continues to seek closure and justice for Jayvon Sanders, hoping that someone will come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the person responsible for his death.
