EPA's plan to clean up San Jacinto Waste Pits Superfund site approved
The San Jacinto Waste Pits are getting moved after the EPA's plan was approved earlier today. A lot of nearby residents and businesses have been concerned about the highly toxic dioxin at the site. Our Greg Groogan has been covering this story closely for several moths. The EPA says workers will excavate 212,000 cubic yards of dioxin contaminated material for disposal. A small amount will stay on the site where the EPA says engineering controls will prevent any of it from escaping. The price tag to clean it up: $115 million.
