Elderly Alief resident endures months of sewage flooding in apartment

Elizabeth Navarro, a 67-year-old resident, has been living at the Trails of Ashford Apartments in Alief for more than a year, and has been living in an apartment flooded with sewage waste for months, despite repeated maintenance requests.

Navarro has been dealing with sewage overflows that have inundated her living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. "It was pieces, human pieces coming through my kitchen sink," Navarro said, describing the severity of the situation.

Taking matters into her own hands, Navarro has resorted to using buckets and her own clothes to manage the mess. "I have to stay outside most of the time because I couldn’t shut the door and I have no windows besides that one," she explained.

Navarro claims the issue has persisted since she moved in over a year ago. Despite alerting her property manager and submitting maintenance requests, no permanent solution has been provided. The work order said that it was finished, and they had fixed everything. They haven’t fixed nothing," she said.

When contacted, the property manager told FOX 26 that affected tenants were offered temporary relocation to another unit. However, Navarro, citing her age and the inconvenience, declined the offer. "Look how old I am. I shouldn’t be living like this," she said.

Navarro has reached out to the city’s health inspector, who promised a visit after the New Year. The situation remains unresolved as she awaits further assistance.
