Dozens of families forced from homes after fire destroys 30 South Houston apartments
HOUSTON, TX - Dozens of Houston families have lost everything in a raging fire just a day after Christmas. Flames engulfed 30 apartment units at Ashton II Place apartments at 1408 Avenue H and South Allen Genoa in South Houston this morning. The fire erupted around midnight last night. According to fire investigators, residents began smelling smoke, and they quickly went to door-to-door to alarm other residents at Ashton Place apartments.
Residents ultimately saved lives, by alerting other neighbors, and no casualties were reported. Fire officials say they had to call 2 other fire departments to put the blaze out.
It took firefighters 4 hours to contain the fire at Ashton Place. The Red Cross is offering assistance. Families are now searching for a place to go after this fire devastated their homes just a day after Christmas.
