"The family confronted what they call a monster last week," Gerardo Machado’s attorney Matthew R. Perez. "And so what they're asking today from the public is prayers. This has been a almost two-year journey that they've had to deal with. And although they got justice last week, the healing process never stops. And that's what the family is going through right now. It's very difficult to be in the situation when you are essentially face to face with someone that that kills a family member."

DeLeon was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
