Deputies search for driver in racist road rage incident
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies are on the hunt for a racist road rage driver. A northeast Houston resident says her car was totaled by that driver who left the scene after chasing her down.
The incident happened just before 5 p.m. Wednesday on the intersection of West Lake Houston Parkway and Summerwood Lakes Drive, amid heavy traffic from the D-SNAP registration area nearby.
"I was on the phone with my sister like I do everyday in traffic with my windows down," said the victim, Kenisha Singleton, who was headed home from work at the time. She was at the stop light when she said a white pickup truck pulled up next to her and the driver and passenger started speaking to her.
"They let the window down and the husband, he just went off," described Singleton. "He was like, 'You n-word this. You n-word that. You don't belong here. You think you're better than us. You think you're white with your blonde hair.'"
Singleton, who is a black woman with blonde hair, says the truck was occupied by a white man with dark short hair and facial hair and a white woman with dark blonde hair.
"He was like, 'You're gonna take a picture and call the cops. We kill n***** too.'" said Singleton. "Yeah, he said that the cops kill them too, that he was gonna get away with it. When I mouthed off, like, What's going on? What are you talking about? Then he threw a root beer in my car."
Singleton made a U-turn and tried to get away from the white pickup truck, but the driver made a U-turn with her. She says he followed her, eventually sideswiping her vehicle.
"When he hit the driver side of my car, that's when I turned off on the street," said Singleton. "I was like, This man is serious. He's crazy. Let me stop. So I pulled onto the street and I stopped my car."
Singleton says she had pulled onto Summerwood Lakes Drive when the pickup driver got in front of her, slammed on the brakes and backed into the front of her car at a high speed.
"He drove off," said Singleton. "If he would have hit the gas maybe a little bit harder, I know for fact I would be in the hospital, because the tailgate was in the windshield. So he purposely did what he did, and I didn't give him any reasons to do it."
No arrests have been made in the case. The Harris County Precinct Three Constable's Office is investigating and looking at possible routes the pickup traveled and looking for surveillance video.
Investigators say the suspect vehicle is a Chevrolet or Ford four-door white pickup truck with a Texas license plate that includes the numbers 9013. Anyone with information on the case is enouraged to contact the constable's office by phone at 281-427-4792.
