Deadly weekend in Houston leaves 11 people dead, 13 injured

The search is on for a gunman who shot and killed a woman outside of a bank in Southeast Houston. This is just one of more than a dozen shootings that took place across the city the last few days. In all, at least 11 people were killed and 13 were injured.

HPD released new numbers Monday morning with the unofficial murder count as of October 18. There have been 388 homicides as of date, compared to 300. the same time last year. Homicides in the city are now up 29%.

One of the homicides that took place on Sunday was of 49-year-old Mary Jane Gonzales. Her husband, Hector, now speaking a day later, after his wife was robbed and killed right outside of a bank off of Woodridge Drive.

HPD says the suspect is described only as a Black male wearing a dark hoodie with blue lettering on the front. 

Police say an off-duty officer heard the gunshots, ran towards it, and found the suspect standing next to her body.

Hector says he is a broken man and that he has lost the love of his life. He says the suspect robbed and killed for $40. The two were married for 13 years and have a daughter together.

FOX 26 spoke to another family of a homicide victim, they tell us he was killed on October 9.

Family members say 24-year-old Cedric Jones was shot in the head in his apartment. they also believe it was also a robbery.

"He lives in Cabo San Lucas Apartments. His door was kicked in and he was shot in the head," said Porsha,  Jones' Sister-in-law. "His cell phone was disposed of at a nearby gas station."

"The crime is out of control. Honestly, we are thinking we should pick up and move. We worry about our own future," said Porsha. 

Both families are pleading for the public's help for any information that will help aid HPD in an arrest.
