A construction worker was killed after being crushed by heavy equipment in Dickinson on Tuesday.

A construction worker was killed after being crushed by heavy equipment in Dickinson.

The family of 46-year-old Dislay Manuel Diaz Reburedo confirmed with FOX 26 that he died on the scene on Tuesday afternoon. They said they’re distraught and still trying to process this news.

Police say around 1:50 p.m. on I-45 at FM 517, a worker, identified by the family that the 46-year-old was pinned down by a truck used to carry materials.

"They reported that a boom truck had fell on one of the construction workers right here behind me," said Detective Guadalupe Vasquez with the Dickinson Police Department. "Officers arrived on scene, and observed one victim lying in the roadway."

His brother-in-law spoke with FOX 26 after hearing the news.

"We're devastated. His family is in Cuba and others on a journey to Mexico trying to come to this country. His wife and his daughter are in Mexico," said Luis Manuel, Rebueredo’s brother-in-law.

Family also tell us Diaz Reburedo had been working with the company for a few months and had experience with construction for some time.

"He lived his life very happy. He was a cheerful person, very cheerful. it's a loss that I can't even imagine, I can't imagine," said Luis Manuel.

No other injuries were reported. The family was told the worker's body has been brought to Galveston.
