Brother shoots sister in apparent murder-suicide, 3 others injured at Katy-area home

KATY, Texas (FOX 26) - Family, friends and neighbors grieve as a pair of siblings are killed in a shooting that also left three other people injured. Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said that the man who died is believed to be the shooter and his sister was the other person pronounced dead.

The sheriff's office identified the shooter as John Wright and the victim as Julianna Carr.

The shooting was reported at around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Everhart Manor Lane near Crestford Park Lane in the Katy area.

Neighbor Ariana Forbes heard the family drama turn into a tragedy from across the street.

"I knew it was some kind of gunshot or something. It was loud enough that I thought it was fireworks. But it wasn't. It was gunshots," Forbes said.

Ft. Bend County deputies say Carr and her children were in the process of moving into the rental home.

Her brother John Wright was going to stay with them for a while. Some family friends were helping with the move.

Deputies say John shot and killed his sister. He also shot three of the friends. One man in the hand, a female in the chest and another female in the face. He then turned the gun on himself.

At least one of the children who was home at the time hid in a bathroom.

"There was one who left the residence, jumped out to the backyard. Jumped the fence in the backyard, and she called 9-1-1," Sheriff Nehls said.

He says she is uninjured.

"I think what we can't really wrap our heads around is in our neighborhood this never happens. I mean robberies here and there, and break-ins, but nothing this major," said Forbes.

The sheriff's office hasn't released the names of the other victims yet.
