Baytown shooting: Goose Creek CISD high school student killed at apartment complex

A Goose Creek CISD high school student was shot and killed at a Baytown apartment complex on Tuesday night, officials say.

Officers with the Baytown Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 3400 block of Shady Hill Drive around 9:15 p.m.

According to Baytown PD, officers performed lifesaving measures on a 16-year-old boy who had been struck by gunfire, but the boy did not survive.

"It is a tragedy any time a young life is cut short, especially under violent circumstances," Police Chief John Stringer said in a statement. "The Bayotwn Police Department has been very clear that anyone who will visit violence on residents and visitors of Baytown will be identified, arrested, and brought to justice. Our detectives and officers work tirelessly to ensure that when these events occur, a group of well-trained and committed police officers respond. I am proud of the response of our officers who performed CPR and Life-Saving Measures and secured this scene, as well as our detectives who have been working this case since last night."

A juvenile was killed in a shooting at a Baytown apartment complex.

Police have not released information on a suspect at this time. Detectives are continuing to investigate.

In a statement, Goose Creek CISD confirmed that a Robert E. Lee High School student died in Baytown. The statement reads, "Goose Creek CISD is saddened by the death of one of our Robert E. Lee High School students. The incident occurred off campus last night, January 10, 2023. We are actively trying to gain accurate information, and an investigation by the Baytown Police Department is ongoing. It is difficult for everyone to understand and deal with such a tragedy, so we will have grief counselors available today and in the future for our students and staff. Our hearts go out to the family during this difficult time."
