Baytown man charged with murder following early morning fight at bar

One man is now facing murder charges following a deadly fight on Thursday in Baytown.

What we know:


Baytown police said the shooting occurred at approximately midnight on January 23 when officers responded to a shots fired call at a bar in the 4900 block of Main Street. 

When officers arrived, they found a 41-year-old man with a gunshot wound. 

Officials said life-saving aid was immediately rendered until Baytown Fire and EMS took over CPR efforts. 

The man was taken to Houston Methodist-Baytown Hospital where he later died.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the 41-year-old victim was involved in a physical fight with two known people, a man and a woman, prior to the shooting. 

Officers later located the suspect's vehicle at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Garth Road. 

After a perimeter was established, officials said both individuals were taken into custody without incident. 

The male suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Njoroge Kuria, was charged with murder.

Officials said the female suspect was detained for questioning, but was later released. 

The case remains under investigation.

What we don't know:


It's unclear what led up to the physical fight that ended with the 41-year-old man being shot. 

Officials haven't identified the victim, according to the latest news release.
