Baytown chemical spill being monitored at Bluebonnet Petrochemical Solutions

A chemical spill is being monitored by the Baytown Fire Department, Harris County Public Health, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality at Bluebonnet Petrochemical Solutions.

The fire department arrived at the location near Main and Hunt Road in response to a fire earlier this week. After the fire was cleared, officials found two chemicals were leaking into a nearby drainage area.

Harris County Public Health and other agencies have been called to investigate the incident and conduct testing on private water wells in the surrounding area.

Baytown FD reported the two chemicals involved were identified as methyl palmitate (MeP) and diethylene glycol monoethyl ether.

At this time, no threat to the public was detected after air monitoring was conducted.

Hazmat crews from the Baytown Fire Department are working on the cleanup, while the City of Baytown’s Public Works teams are helping contain the chemicals to prevent further contamination.
