Baby girl found abandoned on Galveston street, later pronounced dead

An unidentified baby girl was rushed to the hospital after she was found abandoned in the roadway in Galveston on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Police received reports of an abandoned child around 10 a.m. on 59th Street near Seawall Boulevard.

Officers, EMS and fire personnel located the infant. Police say she was in need of immediate medical care, and she was transported to the trauma center at UTMB Galveston, where the child later died. 

Galveston police said the child died from bodily harm from trauma, and ‘not a natural death.’ Officials said there was trauma from the scene and from a fall.

Galveston police provide update after baby girl found on street passes away

The Galveston Police Department provided an update after a baby girl was found dead on a Galveston street. However, she later died, officials said.

Police said the child was not kidnapped, and was in care custody control of someone who had authority to have the child. 

Officials said a suspect has been developed and detained shortly after the death of the child. 

The suspect is currently in custody for municipal warrants and has been booked in.

The suspect will be charged with capital murder, according to Galveston police. 

The suspect is said to be not cooperative. 

The child's family has not yet been notified.
