RAW: Update on shooting of HPD officer's son

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has arrested the 17-year-old suspect they believe shot and killed the 14-year-old son of a Houston police officer.

A 17-year-old has been taken into custody for the death of a Houston police officer's son.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says Homicide Violent Crimes detectives arrested Bryan Smith, Jr., who is now charged with capital murder in relation to the 14-year-old victim.

On Wednesday, SWAT units, along with the sheriff's office, executed a search warrant at 26000 Knights Tower Dr. in Kingwood, where they were able to take Smith into custody without incident.

Since he is 17, he is charged as an adult.

The deadly shooting occurred around 8:20 p.m. Monday in the 25000 block of N Kings Mill Lane.

According to the sheriff's office, a woman was walking when she heard gunshots and saw two males running from the area. She kept walking and then found the boy on the sidewalk.

Witness explain horrific discovery of teenage son of HPD officer found fatally shot

FOX 26’s Maria Salazar speaks to the witness who is shaken up after finding the body of a 14-year-old son of an HPD officer, but is speaking out because she hopes what she saw will help someone find who did this.

MCSO says the two teens were friends and both attended Porter High School.

Detectives are still processing through evidence and conducting interviews; therefore, there is potential for further arrests related to the homicide. 

Officials said the motive of the shooting is still under investigation; however, all persons involved knew each other and this does not appear to be a random act of violence. There is no information that this is gang-related or related to the Porter High School incident on Saturday night.
