There's a new world record for the 100-meter-dash and it was set by an elderly woman who has lived a year for each of those meters.

Retired teacher Ella Mae Colbert hit the track at the South Carolina middle school where she works as a volunteer. Her record attempt came less than a week after her 100th birthday.

Hundreds gathered to cheer on Colbert as she shattered the current 1 minute 17 seconds record for her age class by crossing the finish line in 46.791 seconds.

During her first attempt, Colbert fell and scrapped her chin, but got right back on the track after putting a bandage over her wound.

The centenarian is no stranger to the track. She's been running since high school.

Colbert said her three-mile runs, along with her nephews and niece, are what keep her active. She also said there's no secret to living to be 100.

"I don't know what it is except God's goodness," she said.

Officials with Medallion Athletics were at the race to make sure Colbert's time was as accurate as possible.

Her nephew said they have applied with the Guinness Book of World Records to make sure Colbert's time goes down in the books.
