MONTERREY, Mexico (FOX 26) - A charter bus that originated in Houston, bound for Monterrey, Mexico, crashed early Tuesday morning killing one person, and injuring 15 others.
On Monday night, a charter bus from Pegasso tours began the more than 12-hour trip to Monterrey, Mexico. But sometime during the early morning hours, the bus flipped over on a rural highway in the Mexican state of Nuevo León.
It was moments after the crash when Gloria Rodriguez received the news that her parents who were onboard were among the victims.
“I start panic you know cause I mean it was a very bad situations to hear something like that,” Rodriguez said.
About 40 people were onboard during the crash, but it’s not known how many were from our immediate area. The bus made stops at Hillcroft in Houston, Rosenberg, El Campo, and three other stops in Texas before entering the Mexican border. The cause of the crash is still not known.
For the last 20 years, Luis and Gloria Rodriguez have been loyal to Pegasso Tours for their trips to Mexico, because they never ran into any issues with the company. Now their daughter tells FOX 26 their injuries were so bad both needed surgery.
“My mom she just get out from surgery, and my dad, they said they were going to release him but at the end they said no because his lungs collapsed so he still in the hospital," Rodriguez said.
Now Gloria Rodriguez will make the same journey her parents made, on a Pegasso bus, to be by their side.
So far, we don’t have any information on the driver and Mexican authorities have not released any of the victims' names.
