A man was driving a blue BMW 328 in the 8600 block of Airline when he hit a utility pole on the west side of the roadway causing it to split in half. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

HCSO says preliminary information shows the driver was driving erratically at a high rate of speed. He appeared to not be wearing a seatbelt and was possibly intoxicated, officials say.

At this time, the southbound lanes of Airline Drive are shut down in the area.
