HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Several Houstonians came out in their pink to pay their respects to 4-year-old Maleah Davis with a walk Sunday morning.
The walk began at 7:54 a.m.—the last time it is believed Maleah was actually seen alive.
Sunday, June 9, has been declared Maleah Davis Day in the city of Houston. A group called “Dear Maleah” organized the walk as a tribute to the little girl who captured hearts across the county.
The walk began at City Hall, and then ended at Harris County Jail. There was also a moment of silence and bubbles blown.
Mayor Sylvester Turner brought comforting remarks at the walk, saying, “We are standing for Maleah and every child in our city.”
Maleah's aunt, the sister of Craig Davis, tearfully told the audience, “Learn these men. Watch who you’re letting in your house.”
On Sunday night, the lights of City Hall will turn pink, in honor of Maleah.
