SPRING, Texas - Officials are piecing together what led up to a woman and child's death in north Harris County, where they were found with possible gunshot wounds.
Details are limited, as it's an active investigation, but deputies were called to a home in the 1800 block of Vernal Glen Circle in Spring. That's where an unidentified woman and who investigators believe to be her child, possibly around the age of 6-years-old were found dead from possible gunshot wounds.
During a press conference, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said officials are treating the incident as a murder-suicide. There were two teenage children inside the home, the Sheriff said, who last saw their mother Monday evening and when they returned, "thought Mom had turned in early and didn't think nothing [sic] of it."

It was not until the next day, Sheriff Gonzalez said the two made the "gruesome" discovery.
Preliminary details are the woman was having marital issues with her husband, the father of the child found killed. Sheriff Gonzalez said the couple was married but separated since October.
Adding more tragedy to the incident, Sheriff Gonzalez noted remnants in the home suggesting the child just celebrated a recent birthday.

"The 6-year-old had just celebrated a birthday in December," said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. "It’s very sad to see some of those remnants, in the home of that birthday."
Edie Ledezma is the ex-common law husband with the woman from this case. He says his teenage son called him moments after making the gruesome discovery.
"I got here as soon as I could," said Ledezma. "He’s like, "Dad, Mom is dead." He’s hurting."
"Our heart goes out to the family of the surviving members, the teens that have to grapple with this, and just the extended family that are learning about what happened here," Sheriff Gonzalez said. "So very heartbreaking and tragic situation, and we hope to just continue to raise awareness as we go forward and continue to send the message of seeking help… Depression is a real thing."
